OK, last chance to dive into racing. At this point I was working, so I purchased a TZ350 on a trailer and give it a go at the club circuits.
The will was there, even some skill, but not the funds. It is impossible to be competitive on a pure racing bike like the TZ without enough money to keep the bike in top form. Cylinders, pistons, tyres, brakes and a plethora of other consumables are a constant drain on the finances and without sponsors or very rich parents, it´s a losing battle.
In retrospect perhaps a good fast production bike would have allowed me to concentrate more on improving my racing skills, with the mechanics being more or less spot on from the factory. It doesn´t matter, it was a hoot and a unique learning experience. At the end of the season I decided that I´d given it a try, but it wasn´t going to happen. Time to bow out gracefully.
